OzHarvest Cafe Pop Up - Fighting Food Waste
Fighting Food Waste - OzHarvest Cafe Pop Up
One third of all food produced globally is lost or wasted. In Australia, over 5 million tonnes of food ends up as landfill costing the Australian economy $20 billion each year. One in five shopping bags end up in the bin each year, a quantity enough to fill 9,000 Olympic sized swimming pools!
During the winter months of 2018, Brasserie Bread partnered with leading food rescue charity OzHarvest to promote positive change and astop good food from going to waste.
The OzHarvest Café pop up in Surry Hills was a collaboration between OzHarvest, Gratia Enterprises and many other like-minded partners that came together to feature a zero-waste inspired menu.
All bread served at the café was tunnelled sourdough rescued from our bakery. In total, over 44 tonnes of food was saved from going to landfill and OzHarvest raised enough funds to deliver over 155,000 meals to those in need.
